So when I was little, I wanted long hair like Crystal Gayle. Hey, it was the last 1970s! So much that I wanted to change my name to Crystal. I hated my last name so I wanted to change it to Grant, my mother’s last name. Crystal Grant. Hmm. My mom wasn’t having it. She said no on Crystal, but that I could change my last name to hers if I really wanted (stop – think about it…). Well, we all know that sharing the name of a Christian pop singer wasn’t the direction I was headed, even at that young age.
Anyhoo. I still have the 45 of Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue . Here’s a classic performance that also – as only the 1970s could – personifies the era.
i could never imagine being that beautiful. i remember thinking that as a young girl. isn’t that sumpthing)) i suppose we all try to dream ourselves out of ourselves. i wanted to change my name, too, and my eye colour.
took us a while, eh, to find our home in ourselves.

Oh, I loved her, too! So pretty and that hair…
I have a semi unique name. I wanted to be something more common along with not liking my middle name. Creeping up on 50 and I have embraced both. My guilty pleasure is to give my middle name or just some made up name when ordering coffee. The problem is that you have to remember who you are when your drink comes up. Happy Wed! Grace or is it Olivia or maybe just Gretchen.
Haha yes! I love the name Gretchen though – and did you know Olivia is now one of the most popular baby names? Trippy. I used to think about my middle name (Lynn) as my last name but the comments I got were “country singer” or “porn star” – neither I was interested in. I kept my married name after my divorce as it’s got a nicer ring than my maiden name – but would love the chance to eventually change it a final time
A name is like a tattoo…. you can change it but it is painful!
